Spill Them Beans

Observation

Sitting in the middle of butterfly, it is so crowded and loud that it almost sounds silent. I have been trying to overhear people’s conversations but all I hear is a single murmuring tone without a single distinct word. I don’t know how many people are here doing the same exact thing but it’s fascinating to think that so many people are on the same exact path as I am right now. We might all be working on the same assignment, stressing about the same family issue, or freaking out about our own futures when we don’t know what’s ahead of us. I can’t tell what people care about or if it is the same stuff that I care about but it feels weird trying to look this closely at people’s exterior facades because I never have time to think about or have really cared about what others were doing. I can tell that someone is more exhausted than another because they are dressed head to toe in pajamas and slippers which might not be about how much they care but more about how to conserve the energy that we are all after right now. A girl across from me is wearing a nice sweater, has her hair perfectly in place curled with what looks like some kind of product, her makeup is done enough where it probably took longer than four minutes and is wearing nice jeans, without holes and fall boots that are brown with a little bit of a heel. I want to know if she cares about that more than homework, or if she just needs to look good to do well.

Who Would Care

I also have no idea what people are going through in their own lives to allow them to dress whatever they feel like or why they choose the clothes they do. I think that people do these things with much more purpose than they realize and how they look to someone else is not important but it does matter when it comes to a sudden instinct of seeing someone for the first time. I see people in gym clothes, and sneakers, so did they actually work out is that important to them, or is it just being comfy and why is that important to someone? The way everyone looks seems to tell more of a standpoint and roadmap than I expected. Does the person over at the table behind me have a presentation today and is that why they are in a suit and barely touching the food that they have ordered? Is it because they aren’t hungry or is it because they are so nervous about this one task in life and have so much anxiety about it that they could not bare to stomach food right now? I wonder who else here that I can’t see is too anxious to eat right now. Is it from school? Is it from their own families? Is it from the pressure of friends or a crippling fear that whatever they are doing is not enough? It could be everything or it could just be because they aren’t hungry. But no one here looks the same, dresses the same, or is the same, but everyone has the same mannerisms, the same facial expressions, and the same reason for being in this building.
