It is so easy to be envious of what another person has accomplished, received, and achieved. To look at where a person is in their life and wish that was you.

Comparison is the thief of joy. But it robs us of so much more.

Comparison robs us of the focus we need to do quality work. Straight up, you can’t do great work on what’s in front of you if you’re focus is on how others are doing their work. There’s nothing wrong with emulating how others have accomplished their work. But if you try to completely copy what they’ve done then you’re not building anything for yourself at all. You’re just rebuilding what another person has done.

Comparison robs us of contentment we need to feel. Right now. In the lives we are currently living. I love my wife and daughter so much. When I am caught staring at another person’s life, I lose sight of my wife and daughter. I lose my presence of mind to cherish what we have as a family. I don’t want anything to rob that from me. From us.

Comparison robs us of faith. In ourselves and what we can do. When we envy what another person has gained, we start to doubt whether we can do that for ourselves.

Comparison robs us of so much more.

But don’t let it.

Create goals for yourself. Break them into smaller steps to get further down the road. Keep your eyes on them.

Practice gratitude for what you have. Right now.

Believe in yourself. In fact, bet on yourself. If you approach building your own house with focus, contentment, and faith, you’re bound to get where you want to go.
