before touching

ground.

I caught a few in my

Mouth and I made

A drop puddle on my tongue.

I slept with the window open and

The ceiling fan cranked. Hiding

under a heavy quilt brought me

A snug fit of comfort for two weeks

The high…I am compelled to greet

Christmas with itchy eyes and a

Sinus headache. I dream of

Wenceslas snow and icicles hanging

from the roof of my

Florida room.

But that’s not the way it is today.

My brain and body will have to

Accept the truth of their

circumstance. The folly

of their wish for

consistent

temperature.

Frost on car windshields and

damp, sweaty shirts two

days apart

deep in the heart of

winter tell me there

is no steady as she

goes. There is only the

whim of the wind as

she blows north to

south. East to

west.

I want ten bags

of ice this Christmas. Ten

bags placed inside a coffin sized

cooler, wrapped and waiting under

a tree for my greedy hands to

rip it free from

the festive paper

surrounding

it.

And I want

to use

the coal in my

stocking to

burn a hole from

here to forgiveness. No

feelings hard or

otherwise will

prevent me

from

making the

most of this

uncertainty.
